Title: Portrait Portal
Date: 2021 Medium: Reflective Glass Fabric, Nylon Thread, Light Dimensions: 72" x 48" x 2" Description: Art is made in real-time by the experience each person has interacting with my work. Everyone sees their own silhouette with a 3D halo around their head that moves and responds in a futuristic and otherworldly way. Like a spiritual and cosmic mirror from the past, my work portrays the present and the future, created by light and shadow. Viewers can take a Silhouette Selfie with their smart phones, allowing the work to expand beyond the walls of the gallery. This creates a personal experience that is both digital and in the moment. Racial, cultural or political differences are erased as our halos become democratized. Only hair, clothes and hand gestures distinguish each person. It invites people of all backgrounds and persuasions to participate. Art History and Classical forms are referenced to allow for a contemporary medium that reinterprets both historical silhouettes as well as renaissance halos. Title: Materialized Light Painting - Color Mix One
Materials: Reflective Glass Fabric (Optical Screen), Aluminum, LED Lights Dimensions: 8’x5’x5’ Date: 2019 Created for the Holo Center in New York. Generated with Lara's patented lighting discovery from 2010, retro-reflective fabric is brought to life with LED Lights, creating a holographic effect, making light look 3 dimensional as if it fills the air like a cloud of light. The inherent nature of this phenomenon can only be seen in person because our eyes are stereoscopic plays with this aspect of the viewers eyes. Light looks like an object that takes up space and has texture. This effect forces viewers to be in the present moment - they want to reach out and touch the light. |
